These formats offer you the opportunity to learn or further develop agile leadership skills. The basis is a shared mindset, collaboration with flat hierarchies, self-organization and autonomously working teams.
Leadership
Glossary
User
Who is a user depends on the context. In most cases, it is possible to clarify who a user is based on the design question. Users can be both internal and external parties, for example B2B partners, managers or employees. Users are therefore not necessarily the same as end customers, but they can also be.
Agile Leadership
Agile leadership is the ability to convince others of a common goal and lead them there. The leadership practices for innovation, agile and for Design Thinking are: 1) create and communicate a clear vision, 2) establish systems for experimentation and learning, 3) promote psychological safety, 4) enable autonomy.
Uncertainty
Past and present actions are usually put to the test under uncertain circumstances and may require adjustment. Under uncertain circumstances, this adjustment usually takes place not only once, but several times or regularly. This is where overlaps with agile working can be found.
Strategic Vision Development
Many companies are implementing agility and increasingly focusing on innovation in order to be competitive and actively shape the future. A central factor here is clarity. Because only if all employees know where they are going together, can they take individual responsibility, and, consequently, act quickly and agilely. Strategic Visioning identifies a company’s vision, mission and values. It clarifies who in the company contributes to the vision and how they are doing it.
OKRs
The acronym OKRs stands for Objectives and Key Results. This tool for corporate management allows the overarching goals of a company to be translated for different areas and the Key Results to be derived. Key Results are concrete results that have been worked out and and define how you know that the intended goals (Objectives) have been achieved.
Transformational Leadership
Transformational leadership is the management of employees in change processes. It aims to lead employees, and thus the organization itself, toward a desired target state. As a result, transformational leadership focuses on managerial skills, such as the ability to motivate and convince others, to encourage initiative, and to be a role model for change.
Adaptive Leadership
Adaptive leadership is used in companies that are undergoing change. The aim is to develop the company as quickly and appropriately as possible in line with the complex changes. The concept of adaptive leadership was developed by Martin Linsky and Roland Heifetz. Counterproductive behaviors of managers and employees with regard to change should thereby be reduced. Participative, collaborative and integrative leadership practices are central to this approach.
Mindset
Mindset is a basic attitude or way of thinking and includes aspects such as related values and assessments as well as norms and habits. A person’s mindset thus influences his or her thinking and actions. One’s own mindset can be reflected and a different one learned. Depending on the context, different mindsets can be constructive—to a greater or lesser degree.
Psychological Security
Psychological safety is the feeling that people will not be embarrassed or punished if they confidently stand up for themselves and address things concretely (cf. Frazier, Fainshmidt, Klinger, Pezeshkan and Vracheva, 2017).
Medici Effect
When two different domains or knowledge areas are connected, this also triggers an exponential increase in unique concept combinations—and an idea explosion occurs. This is referred to as the Medici effect (cf. Frans Johannson, 2004). The Medici Effect can be used consciously for the development of innovations by putting together teams that are as interdisciplinary as possible.
Practical Transfer
In the trainings of the HPI Academy, the transfer of what we have learned into practice is particularly important to us. In achieving this end, for example, we often create dedicated exercises that show clear ways in which the training content can be practically transferred to the respective work context.
