Online workshop: From design thinking to agile development

Design thinking teams work openly on inspiring new solutions to complex problems. If these solutions prove themselves in real tests, the question arises: How can an agile development project that leads to digital solutions be tackled on the basis of these initial prototypes solutions?

While a design thinking prototype is intuitively understandable, it provides neither enough context nor sufficient detail or even clear prioritization for development work.

In this course, you will learn how the transfer works based on sample projects. Your work will be supported by experts who have accompanied numerous agile projects.

Target Group

The format offers extensive training for agile teams, team leads, product owners, and managers of agile organizational units who will learn how to plan agile projects.

Workshop Agenda

In advance:

Virtual input

Expert videos will prepare and refresh participants regarding the topics of design thinking and agile development. Participants will familiarize themselves with the process and the common methods that define design thinking teamwork and lead to the results that we will then consider and further develop in the workshop.

First workshop day:

Kickoff and joint work in small teams

We will use examples from design thinking projects and address the intuitive, often implicit insights contained in the results of such projects. These examples will come from real projects at the HPI. In addition, workshop participants will have the opportunity to present their own project examples in the workshop and discuss them with other team members. The goal is to identify the specific product vision behind the prototypes.

Second workshop day:

Transfer to agile development

Equipped with the results of the previous day, we will now focus on the requirements of agile development teams with respect to our vision of the product.

What was previously intuitive and tangible will now need explicit communication in terms of the context of a product and prioritization of features and criteria. We will use methods such as user story mapping and the product backlog to translate prototypes into an agile development environment.

Work on different case studies, with a focus on practicing critical work—ranging from design thinking project work to agile development
Learn from experts in the agile work environment and receive feedback on your own project topics
Receive extensive documentation consisting of virtual learning materials as well as the results from the workshop

Key details

Costs: €2,500 plus VAT; 15% discount on the participation fee for the participants of the Design Thinking Introduction workshop (Open Courses); 10% team discount for project teams (3 or more). These discounts cannot be combined.
